This live-streaming camera is strategically positioned 122 metres off the southern coast of Utila. Situated at a depth of 7.6 metres, it sits right on top of a steep coral wall that drops dramatically to a depth of 36.5 metres towards the seabed. About the location: Utopia Village and the Utila sanctuary
Utila is the smallest of the main Bay Islands in Honduras, but it is home to immense biodiversity. This broadcast is being transmitted from the coast of Utopia Village, a stunning location surrounded by lush jungle and white sandy beaches that merge with the reef.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, this enclave served as the island’s main diving resort. Today, it has evolved to fulfil an even greater purpose: it has become a home for researchers and a base of operations for various local non-profit organisations. Its current mission focuses exclusively on marine research and conservation of the Honduran ecosystem.
